On the road to Dawson City

Woke to cold, clear skies in Whitehorse.  After a brief stop at the visitor center and Wal-Mart, we headed N on the Klondike Highway.  Lots of traffic heading this way, good road to begin with.

At the Braeburn Lodge we stopped for a cinnamon roll.

There’s a 9” plate under that roll!  May take us a few days to eat this, Ya Think!  Further on we came to the Montague Roadhouse Historic Site.  It’s a typical early day roadhouse that offered lodging and meals on the stagecoach route between Whitehorse and Dawson City.  There were a total of 52 of these along this route.

Roadside flowers along the way were spectacular!

We drove in and out of the rain all day!  Fortunately the rain let up while we were stopped in Carmacks, so lunch was a burger at the Coal Mine Campground and Store.  They were big and very filling.

We stopped for the night at the Pelly Crossing campground, just east of the bridge into the village and right on the Pelly River. Drove about 165 miles today.

Tomorrow we continue on to Dawson City.

Stay tuned!
